TUTORING

WHAT KIND OF TUTORING DOES THE SCHOLAR'S CHOICE PROVIDE?

The Scholar's Choice offers one-on-one tutoring in many subjects--math, science, English, social studies, foreign languages, and more. No matter what subject you need help with, find a tutor who can help you on your schedule and within your budget -- online or in-person.

Our homework policy: a Scholar's Choice tutor will never do your homework for you, but she or he will help you to understand all the concepts so that you can do your homework yourself!

WHO ARE THE TUTORS?

Most of our tutors are graduate or undergraduate students at some of the nation's top colleges and universities. Some of our tutors are high school teachers or college professors. There are even a few exceptional high school students available to tutor younger students (at a lower hourly rate). Regardless of age, each tutor must have achieved a grade of B+ or better in any subject he or she wishes to tutor and have achieved a 3.33 overall GPA. You can learn about each tutor by reading his or her bio before selecting your tutor and scheduling a session.

HOW DO I KNOW IF A TUTOR IS GOOD?

Each time a tutor helps a student, that student has a chance to review and rate the tutor's help. When you search for tutors, you can select a tutor based on that tutor's education, user rating, whether the tutor provides help online or in person, and on geographic location. Tutors with higher user ratings command and higher per-hour wage. If you begin a tutoring session and find that a tutor is not helping you, you may terminate the session at any time.

HOW DOES TUTORING WORK?

 Search for a tutor.

Read the bios of tutors who match your search terms and select a tutor you'd like to work with.

Decide whether you want help right away or would like to schedule a session for later.

If you choose in-person tutoring (instead of online tutoring), you'll need to select a location with your tutor.

When you schedule or start a session, you'll be asked to provide a credit card number, but you won't be charged until your session begins.

If you choose online tutoring, you and your tutor will both log into The Scholar's Choice at your selected time. When your session begins, you'll use our whiteboard software along with our chat/VOIP client to speak with your tutor. Your session will be timed, and you will be billed for the amount of time you worked with a tutor based on that tutor's hourly rate. When your session ends, you'll be able to print out or save a transcript of your conversation as well as your whiteboard scribbles for later reference.

If you choose in-person tutoring, you and your tutor will meet at your selected location at the time you have scheduled.

Use Our Free Online Whiteboard
An online whiteboard is a collaboration tool that allows users to connect with each other to chat (using instant messaging or voice), share audio or video, share content from their computer desktops, draw freehand, or draw using our subject-specific symbols. Students can meet with each other online to work on group projects, or teachers can meet with their students to provide extra help. We use this same software to allow our tutors to meet with students online. Once you launch a whiteboard conference room, you can invite other users to join you.

Online Safety
All of our tutors have passed background checks, but whenever you talk to anyone online, you should avoid providing personal information, like your full name, age, or location. Your tutor will never ask you for more information than is necessary to help you with your assignment. You should not discuss your geographic location unless you are setting up an in-person tutoring session. Our tutors are directed to schedule in-person meetings at a public place, like a library, and will not schedule an in-person meeting in your home without a parent's permission.
